Long Track Open - The Central Coast Cup - 28-29 August at Allen Park Somersby. Australian Junior Dirt Track Titles - Kurri Kurri Junior Motorcycle Club 2-4 July Over the three days and seven races on board his KTM 50, Dean was at the pointy end of the field with mixed results as a crash and a last place start, due to hitting the gate, didn't help the overall points count. Although otherwise being in the top three and one of two riders to take race wins. Dean was able to secure enough points to take 2nd place overall. Not a bad effort for his first time at an Australian Title. NSW Junior Dirt Track Titles
EASTER 2 DAY TRIAL ROUNDS 1 & 2 by Greg Harding
Hi Everyone, Motorcycle Trials Club of Queensland (MTCQ) held the annual two day trial on the 3rd & 4th of April at Jimboomba near Beaudesert. This is the third time that I have ridden at this relatively new venue. Previously the Easter two day and the inaugural TY challenge in August last year. The venue has a good selection of sandstone boulders, loose and grassy hill climbs and slippery black bowling ball rocks in the creek.
Having sold the 07 Sherco in October last year, I have been riding a selection of Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and Bultaco twinshock bikes while eagerly awaiting the 2010 SHERCO. Well, I am very happy to say it finally turned up mid March and was definitely worth the wait! Sherco have really done their homework as the bike is very nimble, well balanced and happy to go in any direction, whenever you want .The power is silky smooth right off the bottom and variable right through the rev range complemented with a very light progressive clutch. There is a new frame and the air cleaner and fuel tank have swapped places to lower the centre of gravity and raise the air intake to just behind the headset. If you are curious, you can find out more on sherco.com or trials.com.au
As I have mentioned before, I ride Veteran’s (over 40’s) which has a handicap system that makes it almost impossible to win as I am a relatively young Veteran. Not one to let this deter me, I simply look at the raw score as a way of monitoring my progress and comparing to others.
For some time now, there is only one Veteran who rides in northern NSW & Qld who I have been unable to beat on raw score. Steve Holzhauser from Casino has been Veteran/Greybeard Champion fourteen times which is a pretty impressive feat. At last, this is no longer the case as on the Sunday of the trial round 2 of the Queensland series, I only lost 5 points and Steve lost 16 points. So the results for Veterans over both days including handicap were;
1st Paul Moore 23, 2nd Michael Frith 28, 3rd Steve Holzhauser 29, 4th Greg Harding 42, 5th Tony Bax 53, 6th Rowan Gibson 59, 7th Les Hellyar 74, 8th Tim English 77.
As always, there is still room for improvement. I am very keen to do my next major Trial which will be the two day Queensland Titles on the long weekend in June.
